Yogi Ashwini as the guiding light of Dhyan Ashram is against terming monkeys as vermin and efforts of culling them in the name of social problem.

SHIMLA: Monkeys have been revered, not just in bharatvarsha, but in all ancient civilisations, be it Mayans or the Greeks or the Romans. It is only now in the present Kaliyug with deterioration of man and his abilities to perceive the world of energy, that this vibrant animal is in a sorry state Says Yogi Ashwini a renowned ascetic of Dhyan Ashram.

In Vedic philosophy,he says, a prime example of the energy of monkey is Lord Hanuman who finds mention in both Ramayana and Mahabharata. A manifestation of the Rudra aspect of Shiva (responsible for transformation and destruction), it is the energy dearest to Lord Ram, who is the upholder of dharma and of creation. Hanuman is the energy which could hold in its arms the entire mountain of life giving sanjeevani and the energy which single-handedly put Ravan’s Lanka to fire. He is the bestower of eight spiritual powers and nine nidhis.

The shastras detail that the energy of Hanuman is present on earth in the Kaliyug, certain sadhaks at Dhyan Ashram have seen it in the subtle form and are also aware of its exact location. In the realm of sound, this energy is channelized by the mantra ‘ram’, in the realm of colour it manifests as kesar, and in the realm of the five elements, it takes form of a monkey. If you notice a monkey, you will find that it is an extremely intelligent animal, sensitive, fearless and also mischievous, all of which are traits of Hanuman Yogi Ashwani says.

Today monkeys are at the hands of humans, their homes (the forests) have been destroyed to cater to human greed. With no trees and jungles to live and feed on, the monkeys have turned to human colonies for their needs. It is the dharma of human being to provide for animals, bhuta yagya or feeding the animals is among the five basic duties of a human as prescribed in vedas.

Human instead are taking recourse to killing the monkeys – pelting them, electrocuting them and even shooting them down – giving them the title of ‘vermin’. Let’s not forget it was monkeys who fought on side of Lord Ram against the asurs. Killing them is equivalent to siding with the asurs. The repercussions would be similar to what happened to the asurs back then.
