PM Narendra Modi addressed a gathering of students on the theme of ‘Young India, New India’ on the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago address.
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Swami Vivekananda on Monday at a students’ convention to mark the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago address and Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya’s centenary celebrations.
The theme of the convention was ‘Young India, New India’.The PM was referring to the famous speech made by Vivekananda in Chicago in 1893 at the Parliament of World Religions, the 125th anniversary of which is being celebrated this year.
“Today is 9/11…this day became widely spoken about after 2001 but there was another 9/11 of 1893 which we remember…he 9/11 of 1893 was about love, harmony and brotherhood,” said PM Modi.
He said Vivekananda’s ideals can be a guide for all, especially the young, even in today’s day and age.Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Swami Vivekananda gave the concept of ‘One Asia’. “He (Swami Vivekanda) said that the solutions to world’s problems will come from Asia,” PM Modi said.
“Vivekananda did not believe in sermonising…Vivekananda said that only rituals will not connect an individual to divinity…he said ‘Jan Seva is Prabhu Seva’ (“To serve humanity is to serve god”),”said the PM.
PM Modi said India is standing at a global stage due to the people power. “India is changing, India’s standing at the global stage is rising and this is due to Jan Shakti,” he said.
